Our take
What does Legend Night smell like?
Montblanc released Legend Night in 2017, six years after the original Legend. Antoine Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux built it as an evening version in eau de parfum strength. The round bottle switches to copper toned glass. The opening is aromatic: clary sage, mint and bergamot, with cardamom adding a little warmth. The apple from the 2011 Legend returns in the heart, surrounded by lavender and a powdery violet. Cedar and fir resin push it in a woodier direction. The base is what sets it apart. Black vanilla, akigalawood, vetiver and patchouli make the skin warmer and softer than the original eau de toilette ever did. Despite the name, it plays it safe. It is no nighttime bomb and would pass easily at the office. Next to classic Legend, which is fresher and more fougere, Night is rounder and more vanilla driven. Its powdery violet faintly recalls Dior Homme Intense, only sweeter.
