Our take
What does Boss Bottled Sport smell like?
In spring 2012 Hugo Boss spun its 1998 best-seller into a sport version. Boss Bottled Sport keeps the tube-shaped bottle and drops nearly everything else. The apple and cinnamon of the original are gone. Instead, bitter grapefruit and tart yuzu open on a clean-towel feel. Aldehydes add that soapy, slightly metallic effect found in many gym scents. The heart sets clean lavender beside cardamom seed, more cool than spicy. The base is better than you'd guess. Vetiver and patchouli dry everything out while a quiet tonka bean stops it from going bone-dry. Compared with the original Boss Bottled, which is warmer and softer, Sport works in the morning and is gone by evening. The brand doesn't name a perfumer. Longevity is what you'd expect from a fresh eau de toilette, fine and nothing more.
When to wear it
