Our take
What does Kenzo Power smell like?
With Kenzo Power, launched in 2008, Kenzo tried an unusual idea: giving men a flower. Olivier Polge, who had already created Flower by Kenzo, composed it. The opening feels odd at first. Bergamot softened by vanilla meets coriander and cardamom, with a shaving cream or rice powder effect. The floral heart is deliberately abstract. Rose, jasmine and freesia are listed. What you notice is a vague flower somewhere between osmanthus, green tea and water lily. The base is more classic. Tolu balsam and labdanum bring resinous softness, and cedar adds a bit of structure. The result is soft, clean and a little retro. Compared with Flower by Kenzo, Power keeps that powdery poppy-without-a-scent idea and adds spice. It puzzled plenty of buyers used to the marine masculines of the time.
When to wear it
Good for the office or a low-key date, since it never shouts. You will need three sprays for anyone to notice it.
It belongs to the Woody, Spicy family. Kenzo Power is one of 17 creations by Kenzo in our encyclopedia.
