Our take
What does Hugo Just Different smell like?
Hugo Boss launched Hugo Just Different in 2011, following the men's Hugo and its flask-shaped bottle. The eau de toilette opens on a very direct mint, almost cold, that Granny Smith apple makes tart. That is its best moment. The heart turns aromatic and green, with basil and coriander adding bite while freesia brings a light floral softness. The base is darker than you'd guess. Patchouli, cashmeran, incense and labdanum form a dry and slightly smoky foundation. It gives decent longevity and a less sporty feel than the opening. Compared with the 1995 Hugo that started the line, Just Different is mintier and more resinous. The green apple is the thread that ties them together. The jump from cold mint to warm incense is a bit abrupt, and you feel the gear change about an hour in.
When to wear it
A daytime scent for spring and summer that works at the office and on weekends. Two or three sprays are enough since the mint carries far at first.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Hugo Just Different is one of 35 creations by Hugo Boss in our encyclopedia.
