Our take
What does Au Masculin Intense smell like?
Lolita Lempicka introduced Au Masculin Eau de Parfum Intense in September 2015, fifteen years after the original. Annick Menardo, who composed the first Au Masculin, returned for it. The opening keeps a family likeness. Bergamot and star anise give a cool, sweet start, quieter than in the 2000 version. The heart changes tone, and quite sharply. Agarwood and vetiver bring a dry, slightly resinous smoke. Myrrh and iris in the base add a powdery, somewhat mysterious texture. The bottle mimics dark bark with green liquid showing through, which nicely echoes the original design. Compared with the original Au Masculin, the Intense loses much of the gourmand vanilla and licorice. Fans of the first version may be disappointed. Those who found it too sweet will get a more grown-up alternative, if a less distinctive one.
When to wear it
An evening woody for winter, sprayed on the collar of a dark coat. Two sprays are enough.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Woody family. Au Masculin Intense is one of 5 creations by Lolita Lempicka in our encyclopedia.
