Our take
What does Rose Nacrée du Désert smell like?
For the Les Déserts d'Orient collection, Thierry Wasser composed Rose Nacrée du Désert in 2012. The trio, rounded out by Encens Mythique d'Orient and Songe d'un Bois d'Été, launched first in the Middle East before reaching Guerlain boutiques. Wasser personally chose the Persian rose at its center. The opening is dark. Saffron and rose unfold over patchouli with a light trace of smoke. The heart adds cardamom and turmeric, then cedar and an oud accord. At this point the rose turns sweeter and almost candied. One reviewer even picked up marron glacé. The base blends myrrh and benzoin. It's ambery and balsamic, and the rose clings to the skin until the end. Dior's Oud Ispahan is the other famous rose oud of the period. Rose Nacrée du Désert is sweeter and spicier. The collection was later reworked and this perfume did not survive the change.
When to wear it
A winter perfume for big evenings, to be dosed with restraint. One spray on each wrist is enough.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Woody family. Rose Nacrée du Désert is one of 89 creations by Guerlain in our encyclopedia.
