Our take
What does Eau de Cartier Vétiver Bleu smell like?
Cartier added Vétiver Bleu to its Eau de Cartier line in January 2015. Mathilde Laurent composed this unisex eau de toilette as a spin on the 2001 Eau de Cartier. The house described a multi-faceted vetiver with smoky accents. The official note list is very short. The opening is minty, almost icy, like a crushed mint leaf. Then vetiver takes over. It is earthy and dry, with that damp root quality that makes the material so appealing. Soft licorice runs alongside it and adds an unexpected roundness. The base stays woody and lightly smoky with no added sugar. Guerlain’s Vétiver, with more tobacco and citrus, remains the classic of the genre. Vétiver Bleu is greener and fresher, designed for summer. It no longer seems to be in production, so bottles now turn up mainly at online discounters.
When to wear it
A daytime splash for hot weather, for anyone. Spray generously since the mint evaporates fast.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Eau de Cartier Vétiver Bleu is one of 15 creations by Cartier in our encyclopedia.
