What does Sweet Like Candy smell like?
Ariana Grande launched Sweet Like Candy on 20 July 2016, first as an Ulta exclusive in the United States. It was her second perfume after Ari, which came out the year before with the same partner, Luxe Brands. The opening brings together blackberry, Italian bergamot and pear. It is juicy and openly sweet, with the bergamot barely lightening the load. The heart is floral, with jasmine sambac, frangipani and honeysuckle quieter than you might expect. The base lives up to the name. Crème de cassis, marshmallow, cashmere woods and vanilla build a cloud of confectionery. Compared with Ari, Sweet Like Candy is fruitier and more colourful, with less powder. It clearly targets a young audience and has no interest in nuance. On those terms it does its job very well. The brand reports a Fragrance Foundation award in 2017 in the popular women's category.
When to wear it
A weekend gourmand for autumn, kept light on skin. One or two sprays, since the sugar carries a long way.
