Our take
What does Cabotine Rose smell like?
Grès launched Cabotine Rose in 2003, thirteen years after the original Cabotine of 1990 with its very green ginger lily. The pink version heads in a fruitier direction. The opening brings together blackcurrant, mandarin, cherry blossom and pear in a juicy and tangy mix. The heart is a big bouquet. Peony and mimosa lead, with tuberose, orange blossom and jasmine in the background. Despite the name, rose plays only a small part. Mimosa adds a powdery, slightly honeyed softness, and it remains the most recognizable note. The base of sandalwood, musk, vetiver and frangipani has little depth. Compared with Cabotine, which is greener and bolder, Cabotine Rose is sweeter and more crowd-pleasing. It's an unpretentious drugstore perfume that many women have worn for twenty years. Its low price has a lot to do with that loyalty.
When to wear it
A daytime scent for spring and summer. Three or four sprays are fine, as it never gets in anyone's way.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Cabotine Rose is one of 3 creations by Grès in our encyclopedia.
