Our take
What does Amor Amor Absolu smell like?
In October 2010 Cacharel gave Amor Amor, first released in 2003, a richer follow-up. Dominique Ropion, who had also worked on the original, composed this Absolu eau de parfum. The opening is all fruit: tart black currant, pineapple and grapefruit. Think of a punch served a little too cold. Frangipani, jasmine and lily of the valley make up the heart. Those white flowers stay pale next to the fruit, which keeps control for a good hour. The base is what changes things. Praline, vanilla and benzoin form a warm glaze, softened with some sandalwood. That base is what earns the name. Where Amor Amor was light and playful, the Absolu leans toward dessert. It recalls Dior’s Hypnotic Poison in its simplest and sweetest form, without the almond or the depth.
When to wear it
For a winter evening or a dinner date on skin that handles sugar well. One or two sprays at most because the praline takes over fast.
It belongs to the Floral, Gourmand, Fruity family. Amor Amor Absolu is one of 14 creations by Cacharel in our encyclopedia.
