Our take
What does Cartier de Lune smell like?
Mathilde Laurent composed Cartier de Lune for the house in 2011. The theme is the moon. The bottle comes in moonstone blue with a silver cap meant to recall its reflection on water. The scent follows that idea of cold light. It starts with pink pepper and juniper berries, a dry, slightly gin-like opening with a gentle prickle. The heart is airy. Lily of the valley and honeysuckle lead, cyclamen adds a watery edge and rose stays in the background. Musk and woods hold the base without weighing it down. Diorissimo comes to mind for the lily of the valley, but Cartier de Lune is less green and spicier up top. It also lasts less. It seems to have left the counters and now turns up mostly through resellers, which is a pity for such a clean floral.
When to wear it
A clear floral for the office and summer evenings outdoors. Spray generously, since it rarely lasts beyond four hours.
It belongs to the Floral family. Cartier de Lune is one of 15 creations by Cartier in our encyclopedia.
