Our take
What does Pasha Édition Noire smell like?
Cartier released Pasha Édition Noire in 2013 as a modern take on the 1992 Pasha, in a refillable bottle finished in matte black. The opening pairs an aquatic accord with black pepper and green notes. It's fresh without smelling like the sea, and the pepper gives it a crisp wake-up. In the heart, iris and a violet accord bring a powdery, slightly cosmetic texture. Clove darkens them just enough to keep lipstick at bay. The base combines a cashmere accord with Chinese cedar and heliotropin. That last material smells of almond and play dough, and it rounds off the finish. The iris recalls Dior Homme, only fresher and without the cocoa. It's much darker than the original Pasha, which leaned on lavender and mint. Still, it stays well behaved. Most of the promised darkness is in the bottle.
When to wear it
A peppery iris that works at the office and at dinner, from spring to autumn. Two sprays on the chest are plenty.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Pasha Édition Noire is one of 15 creations by Cartier in our encyclopedia.
