Our take
What does Eau de Cartier Goutte de Rose smell like?
After Essence d'Orange and Essence de Bois, Cartier added Goutte de Rose to the Eau de Cartier line in 2013. Mathilde Laurent, the house perfumer, composed this eau de toilette for spring and summer. The opening smells like a garden just after watering. Grapefruit, bergamot and rhubarb give a crunchy sourness, backed by green notes. Then comes the rose, light and clean. Litchi and blackberry make it juicy. Violet leaf keeps that cut-stem feel and stops it from tasting like candy. The base is minimal. Clean musk and powdery violet close things off quietly. The original Eau de Cartier from 2001 was more herbal, with its yuzu and lavender. Goutte de Rose is clearly a floral. It still stays in the same transparent register, halfway between a cologne and a perfume.
