Our take
What does Allure Homme Édition Blanche smell like?
Jacques Polge made Allure Homme Édition Blanche in 2008, first as a concentrated eau de toilette. Chanel reissued it as an eau de parfum in 2014, and that is the version sold today. Lemon runs the whole opening, backed by bergamot. It is creamy rather than sour, closer to lemon curd than to a squeezed wedge. The heart seasons it with pink pepper, white pepper and ginger over a clean cedar that keeps things cool. Then the base shifts register. Haitian vetiver and New Caledonian sandalwood get wrapped in Madagascan vanilla and tonka, with musk smoothing the seams. That contrast between a bright top and a soft bottom is the whole point. Beyond the name, it shares very little with the original Allure Homme.
When to wear it
