Our take
What does Aqua Allegoria Bergamote Calabria smell like?
Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria line dates from 1999 and focuses on fresh materials. Bergamote Calabria joined it in 2017, signed by Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk. It does exactly what the name says. Bergamot zest opens with a clean bitterness, underlined by pink pepper and green notes. The heart brings bergamot back as juice, rounder and less bitter. Ginger and cardamom add a spicy coolness that keeps it from smelling like lemonade. Petitgrain contributes a woody green touch. The base stays light. White musks and a vanilla amber accord hold the bergamot on skin a little longer than a classic cologne would. In spirit it sits close to Eau de Guerlain and its aromatic style, only simpler and more modern. As often with citrus, it rarely lasts beyond three hours. Keep a small bottle in your bag.
