Our take
What does Blue Jeans smell like?
Released in 1994 in the Versus line, Blue Jeans targeted a young crowd with a blue bottle and a friendly price. The house has not confirmed the perfumer. The opening is busy. Bergamot and lemon mix with anise, juniper berries and basil, while lavender sets the fougere tone. The heart is surprisingly floral, with jasmine, rose and lily of the valley next to a peppery carnation and a hint of iris. Sage keeps an aromatic thread running. Vanilla and tonka soften the base over sandalwood, cedar and amber. Musk rounds it off. The result smells like upscale shaving foam and the denim jackets of the era. Next to Cool Water, released a few years earlier, Blue Jeans comes across sweeter and less aquatic. It has aged, but it still has real retro charm.
When to wear it
A casual scent for spring and summer weekends. Use three or four sprays because it fades fairly fast.
It belongs to the Fougère, Aromatic family. Blue Jeans is one of 14 creations by Versace in our encyclopedia.
