Our take
What does Lucky smell like?
Christian Dior was superstitious. According to the house, he slipped a sprig of lily of the valley into the hems of his dresses for luck on show days. Lucky picks up that story. François Demachy composed it for La Collection Privée, and most sources date it to 2018. Lily of the valley leads from start to finish. It arrives with ozonic notes that make it airy, almost dewy. The heart surrounds it with white flowers and a touch of jasmine, never stealing the spotlight. A green, sappy note recalls a freshly cut stem. The base stays light on clean musks. It is simple and linear. That is its strength and also its limit. Diorissimo, the great Edmond Roudnitska lily of the valley from 1956, remains the house benchmark. Lucky is sheerer and more modern than its elder, but less rich.
