Our take
What does Rose Gipsy smell like?
Rose Gipsy joined the Collection Privée Christian Dior in early 2018. Retailers credit the formula to François Demachy, then Dior's in-house perfumer. The subject fits in one flower: rose de mai, grown around Grasse and harvested for only a few weeks a year. Dior shows it in a green, fresh light. The first impression is of a stem freshly snapped. A dewy note wets the petals before pepper arrives with a light sting. Then the rose opens up with no honey and no jam. It stays clear and nearly fruity, with the slightly vegetal edge you get from just-cut roses. The base keeps a low profile, so the scent holds on to that early-morning feel until the end. Compared with Miss Dior Eau de Parfum, where the rose leans on patchouli, Rose Gipsy is greener and far lighter. Think of it as the rose Dior keeps for sunny days.
When to wear it
A spring rose for daytime, at the office or on a café terrace, sprayed over a white shirt. Expect four or five hours of wear and plan to reapply in the afternoon.
It belongs to the Floral, Green family. Rose Gipsy is one of 56 creations by Dior in our encyclopedia.
