Our take
What does Rose des Vents smell like?
Rose des Vents belongs to Louis Vuitton's first women's collection, launched in 2016. Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, the house perfumer and a Grasse native, composed it. The name means compass rose, a nod to travel and the trunk maker's roots. This is a rose with no sugar and no oud. The opening is green, with a pinch of pepper that stings slightly. In the heart, centifolia rose joins the Turkish and Bulgarian roses the house likes to highlight. Italian iris adds a cool powdery touch, like a petal that is still damp. The base keeps a low profile. Virginia cedar and a light musk hold the structure without weighing it down. Set next to Frédéric Malle's Portrait of a Lady, Rose des Vents is far brighter and much less spicy. It is a daytime rose, elegant and a bit polite, priced high enough that you need to truly love it.
When to wear it
A spring and summer rose, discreet enough for the office. Two sprays on the wrists and collar are plenty, as it stays close to the skin.
It belongs to the Floral family. Rose des Vents is one of 13 creations by Louis Vuitton in our encyclopedia.
