Our take
What does Light Blue Italian Zest smell like?
In spring 2018, Dolce & Gabbana launched Light Blue Italian Zest as a limited edition that first appeared in travel retail. Olivier Cresp, who composed the original Light Blue in 2001, signed the women's version. The idea is simple: take the house's summer classic and turn up the acidity. Calabrian lemon opens loud. It's joined by Sicilian citron and a crisp Granny Smith apple that smells almost green. The heart keeps the white rose and jasmine of the original, but they stay in the background. The base shrinks to amber and soft musks. It is shorter-lived than Light Blue and more frankly lemony. The cedar and bamboo of the original are gone, so the scent feels flat after an hour. In high summer that barely matters. You wear it like a cologne and reapply.
When to wear it
For hot days, at work or on holiday. Keep a travel spray in your bag since it needs topping up.
