Our take
What does Un Jardin sur la Lagune smell like?
Christine Nagel created Un Jardin sur la Lagune in 2019, the sixth Hermès garden. It is based on a real place, the Giardino Eden on the Giudecca island in Venice. The scent opens on citrus and a pinch of salt, like lagoon air drifting over the wall. The heart is white and floral. Magnolia leads, joined by pittosporum with its orange blossom feel. Madonna lily adds a fleshier touch. The base stays light, made of driftwood, cedar and musk. Everything is sheer and slightly damp, never sweet. Compared with Jean-Claude Ellena's Un Jardin sur le Nil, which is greener and fruitier, the Lagune is more floral and saltier. Nagel keeps the spirit of the series while giving it more flesh. Longevity is typical of a Hermès eau de toilette, quiet and in need of an afternoon refresh.
When to wear it
A shareable spring and summer scent for the office or a walk by the water. Spray skin and clothes to keep the salt around longer.
It belongs to the Floral, Woody family. Un Jardin sur la Lagune is one of 47 creations by Hermès in our encyclopedia.
