Our take
What does Boss Bottled Tonic smell like?
Hugo Boss launched Boss Bottled Tonic in early 2017 as a summer take on the 1998 Boss Bottled. The brand did not name the perfumer. The idea is in the title, a citrus tonic. Grapefruit, orange and lemon open with a clean bitterness. The apple, carried over from the original, keeps it tied to the line. Ginger then steps in and recalls tonic water. A quiet cinnamon follows. Vetiver and dry woods close it off. Everything stays legible, with no shadowy corners. Compared with Boss Bottled, which is warmer with cinnamon and creamy wood, Tonic is drier and faster. It suggests a gin and tonic rather than a three-piece suit. This is an office scent for the warm months, efficient and a bit anonymous. Longevity is decent for a citrus eau de toilette.
When to wear it
For spring and summer days at the office or on a café terrace. Four sprays on the neck and shirt, with a top-up after lunch.
It belongs to the Woody, Citrus family. Boss Bottled Tonic is one of 35 creations by Hugo Boss in our encyclopedia.
