Our take
What does Match Point smell like?
Lacoste released Match Point in 2020 as a direct nod to the tennis roots of the brand. Retailers credit Sophie Labbé with the eau de toilette, and an eau de parfum came later. The opening rests on very green basil with grapefruit and pink pepper. It's lively and a little prickly. The heart is more unusual. Gentian brings a rooty bitterness, while clary sage and geranium add an herbal, almost soapy side. In the base, cashmeran gives a soft, slightly musky texture and vetiver dries everything out. Next to the brand's own L.12.12 Blanc, Match Point is more herbal and less soapy-clean, with real plant character. It's still a mass-market fresh scent without much depth, but it doesn't smell like everything else. Gentian is rare in mainstream men's scents and gives it a faintly medicinal tone.
When to wear it
A fresh scent for spring and summer, great after sport or at the office. Three sprays are enough and it lasts well for the price.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Match Point is one of 11 creations by Lacoste in our encyclopedia.
