Our take
What does Le Male Elixir smell like?
Francis Kurkdjian created Le Male in 1995. In 2023 Quentin Bisch delivered the Elixir, sold in Parfum concentration. The first seconds are familiar: lavender and mint, the barbershop duo that made the original so recognisable. The freshness lasts only a few minutes. Vanilla and benzoin swallow the heart, resinous and almost balsamic. The base then pushes further. Honey gives a sticky, golden texture and tonka brings its almond side, while tobacco adds a dry leafy note that keeps it from turning into pure candy. It is dense and projects far. Next to the 1995 original, the Elixir trades the powder and clean-laundry feel for an amber warmth that clings to a jumper until the next morning.
When to wear it
Cold weather and evenings only, and two sprays are plenty. It suits anyone who loves sweet ambers and does not mind being noticed.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Fougère family. Le Male Elixir is one of 14 creations by Jean Paul Gaultier in our encyclopedia.
