Our take
What does Courrèges Homme smell like?
Having returned to menswear, Courrèges launched two men’s scents in 2018, Courrèges Homme and a Sport version. Alexandra Monet composed the main eau de toilette. It has nothing to do with the woodier Courrèges Homme of the 1970s. The brand talks about icy lavender, and the opening fits that idea. Bergamot, mint and sage deliver an aromatic chill. Lavender then settles in the heart with a slightly rosy geranium and ambroxan, which adds a salty skin effect. Tonka is already starting to soften things. The base turns more gourmand with resinous benzoin, vanilla and a crystallised moss that keeps some freshness. The lavender and vanilla pairing recalls Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Male. Courrèges Homme is drier and less sugary. It also smells more modern, with the ambroxan keeping the sweetness in check.
