Our take
What does Flower by Kenzo Eau de Lumière smell like?
In 2017 Kenzo spun its 2000 Flower into a brighter eau de toilette called Eau de Lumière. Alberto Morillas, who composed the original, signed it with Amandine Clerc-Marie. The opening pairs Italian bergamot with a crisp pear that softens the citrus bite. Jasmine sambac takes center stage in the heart, backed by Bulgarian rose. It is bright and clean, without the thick powder of the original. The base keeps the family signature of white musk, warmed here by a touch of honey. Flower by Kenzo in 2000 relied on violet, heliotrope and a powdery vanilla that smelled of lipstick. Eau de Lumière keeps the musk but erases nearly all of the powder. Fans of the original may find it too tame. For those who found the original stifling, it is a good way in.
