Our take
What does Love Story smell like?
Chloé launched Love Story in September 2014. Anne Flipo built the formula around orange blossom. The story comes from the love padlocks on the Pont des Arts in Paris, which both the campaign and the bottle reference. It opens on citrus. Neroli, bergamot, grapefruit and lemon surround a juicy pear. The heart is the core of the scent. Orange blossom and stephanotis lead. Rose and peach stay in the background, and blackcurrant adds a tart edge. Cedar and musk carry the base. A cashmere wood note and light patchouli keep it from going flat. The result is clean and rather laundry-like, and some critics found it smelled of detergent. Compared with the 2008 Chloé eau de parfum, Love Story is less powdery and brighter. Longevity is decent, but the trail stays small. We wish it had a bit more skin.
When to wear it
A bright daytime scent for the office or a café terrace. Two sprays on skin, topped up in the afternoon.
