Our take
What does Kenzo Homme Intense smell like?
Thirty years after the 1991 Kenzo pour Homme, the house reinvented its woody marine. Quentin Bisch of Givaudan composed this Eau de Toilette Intense. The blue bottle takes the shape of a bamboo stem, with a bevelled cap that hints at a katana. The opening pairs peppery pink pepper with a fairly salty sea accord. The heart is more interesting. Fig wood brings a green and milky note, and vetiver dries it out. Sandalwood gives creamy softness to the base. Akigalawood, a material derived from patchouli, adds a lightly spiced woodiness. The result is clean and modern, without the sugary excess of many recent masculines. Next to the original Kenzo pour Homme, this one feels drier and less watery. It is still fairly safe and won't surprise anyone used to fresh woody scents.
