Our take
What does Chrome Pure smell like?
Azzaro launched Chrome Pure in 2017, twenty years after the first Chrome. Olivier Pescheux and Jacques Huclier kept the line’s aquatic freshness and made it woodier. Bergamot and mandarin open briefly and brightly. An aquatic accord follows with orange blossom. The heart is mostly Akigalawood, a Givaudan material that hints at patchouli and a very light oud. It gives Chrome Pure its darker tone. Tonka bean and slightly grassy maté soften the base. Cedar and white musk finish the job. Next to the original Chrome, this one smells less of laundry and cold metal. It stays reassuringly clean but warms up toward the end. Some sizes have left the shelves, so it can be hard to find. It is cheap and that counts in its favour. The drydown is the best part, when the maté turns soft and slightly green.
When to wear it
An everyday scent, from the office to Sunday sport. Use at least three sprays since longevity is only average.
