Our take
What does Elixir pour Elle smell like?
Mauboussin, the jeweller from Place Vendôme, released Elixir pour Elle around 2013 as an eau de parfum. Blackcurrant hits first. It is sweet and fizzy, more jam than green bud. A red rose takes over quickly. It is thick and frank, backed by jasmine that adds some flesh. The base promises an oud accord. Don't expect the animalic wood of Gulf perfumery. This is a mass-market oud, smoky just enough and drowned in vanilla. The effect is closer to rose cake than to a temple. It loosely recalls Lancôme's Trésor for its fruity rose, minus the powder and apricot. Priced gently, it found a real following among women who want a warm oriental without spending much. Few perfumes at this price feel so warm. Projection is strong for the first two hours.
When to wear it
Keep it for autumn and winter evenings. One or two sprays are plenty, since the vanilla base swells on warm skin.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. Elixir pour Elle is one of 4 creations by Mauboussin in our encyclopedia.
