Our take
What does Rose pour Elle smell like?
The jeweller Mauboussin launched Rose pour Elle in January 2012, first as a Nocibé exclusive. The bottle is topped with a silver ring, the house emblem. No perfumer is credited. At launch it came in 30, 50 and 100 ml. The opening is fruity and fizzy: blackcurrant bud, pitaya and orange. Blackcurrant leads with its familiar green, slightly sulphurous edge. Rose comes next, fresh rather than heady. Magnolia and jasmine frame it without stealing the spotlight. The base mixes caramel, cedar and musks. The caramel stays in the background, softening things without turning into cake. This perfume isn't chasing originality. It offers a well made fruity rose at a gentle price, which explains why it has stayed on shelves. Next to Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet, another light fruity rose, Rose pour Elle is sweeter and a little less polished.
When to wear it
For spring and summer, every day or at the office. The blackcurrant can smell sour on some skins at first, so give it ten minutes before you judge.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Rose pour Elle is one of 4 creations by Mauboussin in our encyclopedia.
