Our take
What does Pour Elle smell like?
Mauboussin Pour Elle came out in 2011, and most retailers credit Olivier Cresp and Nathalie Lorson. The Paris jeweler sells its scents at low prices, and this is one of its best known. The opening mixes red berries and rhubarb. The rhubarb's tartness keeps the sugar in check while orange blossom adds some brightness. The heart gathers jasmine, gardenia and rose in a fairly classic bouquet. Then the base changes tack, with a strong caramel over sandalwood and amber. That's where the scent finds its personality, warm and sticky like burnt sugar. Its caramel drydown recalls Thierry Mugler's Angel, only much lighter and without the patchouli. Published pyramids vary between sellers, so it's worth smelling before buying. A Rose Pour Elle flanker followed later. Its price makes it an easy blind buy for gourmand fans.
When to wear it
An evening gourmand for autumn and winter. Two sprays are enough, as the caramel lingers for hours.
It belongs to the Floral, Gourmand, Fruity family. Pour Elle is one of 4 creations by Mauboussin in our encyclopedia.
