What does Peach Blossom smell like?
Peach blossom smells of fresh, powdery petals, somewhere between light rose and lily of the valley. You sense the fruit without tasting it: a velvety hint, sometimes a soft almond impression. Nothing heavy or syrupy. It is a translucent spring note that blends easily with peony and freesia. On skin it soon fades behind the musks.
Origin and production
The peach tree (Prunus persica) comes from China, where its blossom announces spring. In Chinese culture the flower is linked to renewal and love. The Peach Blossom Spring, a tale written by Tao Yuanming in the 5th century, made it the image of a hidden paradise. The flower yields no oil. In perfume the note is a floral accord, often shaded with a fruity touch.
How perfumers use it
Peach blossom sits in the heart. Burberry used it twice: in Weekend (1997) with reseda, hyacinth and nectarine, then in Brit Sheer (2007) with peony and sweet pea. Lanvin Éclat d'Arpège (2002) surrounds it with wisteria, lilac and green tea for a very airy floral. Boucheron Quatre en Rose (2018) places it near rose and jasmine.
How to wear it
Peach blossom is a daytime spring note. These perfumes are light and go anywhere, office included. An afternoon top-up won't hurt.
