Our take
What does Weekend smell like?
Burberry launched Weekend for women in 1997 with a relaxed mood far from its classic trench coat. The idea is simple: the smell of a weekend outdoors. Mandarin, reseda and a sap note that smells like cut stems open it, with a little sage. The heart is a full spring bouquet. Wild rose and peach blossom sit with blue hyacinth and iris. Nectarine and cyclamen add a sheer fruity layer. The base stays quiet, with cedar, sandalwood and musk. Nothing is heavy and nothing sticks out. Next to Clinique Happy, released the same year and more tart, Weekend is greener and more floral. It has aged like a good cotton T-shirt: no shine, but comfortable. It still sells cheaply. The reseda is the most interesting detail, a green and slightly peppery flower rarely used in mainstream scents.
When to wear it
A fresh floral for spring days, at the weekend or the office. Use four sprays, since it doesn't last long.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Weekend is one of 20 creations by Burberry in our encyclopedia.
