Our take
What does Moonlight in Heaven smell like?
Kilian released Moonlight in Heaven in 2016 as part of An Escape, its line of travel-inspired scents. Calice Becker, the nose behind several of the house's creations, composed it. The idea comes from a Southeast Asian dessert, mango sticky rice drizzled with coconut milk. The opening is fresh though. Lemon and grapefruit lead with a touch of pink pepper. Then mango arrives, ripe and juicy. Coconut and rice give it a milky and almost floury texture, which is the scent's real originality. The base is short. Tonka bean and vetiver take over, and the vetiver ends up in charge. Some people find that finish dull after such a tasty start. Calice Becker also composed Love, Don't Be Shy for Kilian, a marshmallow and orange blossom affair. Moonlight in Heaven is fruitier and lighter, and much less sugary.
