Our take
What does Beautiful Day smell like?
Castelbajac launched Beautiful Day in April 2017 as a Marionnaud exclusive. Designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac lent his name and Maurice Roucel composed the formula. It now sells as Beautiful Day L'Original alongside several flankers. Almond is the whole story. The opening pairs green almond with bitter orange and green notes. It's less sweet than you'd expect, almost crunchy. The heart moves through heliotrope, lily of the valley and orange blossom. Heliotrope deepens the almond and powder while lily of the valley keeps it fresh. The base turns gourmand with tonka bean, vanilla and a white musk that softens everything. Compared with Dior's Hypnotic Poison, another almond and vanilla scent, Beautiful Day is much lighter and more floral. There's nothing dark here. It smells more like marzipan from a sweet shop.
When to wear it
A soft gourmand for spring and autumn, for daytime or a date. Two sprays on skin and one on a scarf.
It belongs to the Floral, Gourmand family. Beautiful Day is one of 1 creations by Castelbajac in our encyclopedia.
