Our take
What does Candy Gloss smell like?
Spring 2017 saw Candy Gloss join Prada's Candy family. Daniela Andrier, the house perfumer, composed this eau de toilette. The name says it all. Think of the tinted balm you keep in your pocket. It opens with a tart sour cherry and a green cassis. The heart softens with peach and rose. Orange blossom adds some light. The base uses the Candy line's usual grammar of resinous Laotian benzoin with musk and vanilla. Almond and heliotrope push the candied cherry effect. Prada Candy from 2011 leaned on a thick caramel. Candy Gloss is fruitier and sheerer, and it reads much younger. The downside is average longevity. The cherry also turns a little synthetic late in the day. On paper the cherry sounds childish. On skin it reads more like a red lip than a lollipop, which is the clever part.
