Our take
What does 1881 Signature smell like?
Cerruti released 1881 Signature in spring 2017. The bottle is the 1990 glass block from 1881, tinted opaque black. Nadège Le Garlantezec composed the formula, which has little to do with the original floral fougère. The opening is properly peppery. Pepper leads, backed by bitter grapefruit and a pinch of nutmeg. Leather comes next, with cardamom and cistus. That heart feels warm and a little animal without getting heavy. Vetiver, patchouli and amber make up the base. It turns balsamic but keeps a green edge that lets it breathe. Next to 1881 pour Homme, with its cypress and blackcurrant freshness, Signature plays a different game entirely. It sits closer to the spicy leathers men wear at night. Projection is moderate. Longevity is very good, often a full day on skin.
When to wear it
Keep it for autumn and winter, from the office to dinner. Two sprays on the neck at most, as the pepper can get loud.
It belongs to the Leather family. 1881 Signature is one of 8 creations by Cerruti in our encyclopedia.
