Our take
What does 1881 Sport smell like?
Cerruti released 1881 Sport in 2016 as a limited edition. Amandine Clerc-Marie took 1881 pour Homme and made a fresher version of it. The opening is plain bergamot, no frills. The heart has more going on. Lavender and geranium form a classic fougère accord. Cardamom adds a peppery coolness. Hedione brings a floral transparency that feels almost airy. The base stays dry with vetiver, cedar and a quiet musk. It is a daytime woody aromatic, lighter than the original. Chanel's Allure Homme Sport is more ambery, while this one is more herbal. The bottle keeps the line's bevelled facets under a matte black cap. It sold at a gentle price for a long time. Like many limited editions, it later vanished from the shelves. Leftover bottles still surface on discount sites. If you find one, it makes a cheap and reliable office scent.
When to wear it
An office fougère for spring and summer. Three sprays in the morning, on your shirt rather than your skin.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. 1881 Sport is one of 8 creations by Cerruti in our encyclopedia.
