Our take
What does Allure Homme smell like?
Allure Homme arrived in 1999, composed by Jacques Polge as a men's counterpart to the women's Allure from 1996. Published note pyramids vary widely depending on the source and the era. Chanel today builds its description around bergamot and vetiver. Tonka bean, cistus labdanum and Madagascan black pepper complete the list, and that is the reading here. It opens clean, with citrus that fizzes briefly. Vetiver follows, smoother than earthy and just peppery enough. The base is the best part. Tonka and labdanum give an ambery warmth that is almost sweet, softened by white musks. Nothing sticks out. It is a polished woody oriental built to work anywhere, and it does. Longevity is good rather than remarkable.
