Our take
What does Jersey smell like?
Jersey joined Les Exclusifs de Chanel in 2011. Jacques Polge and Christopher Sheldrake composed it as a tribute to the knit fabric Gabrielle Chanel brought into women's fashion. The house sums it up in three accords: lavender, bourbon vanilla and white musk. Lavender opens, but not the grandmother soap kind. It is smoothed out and nearly creamy. Tonka bean adds a smell of hay and almond. Green notes and a faint jasmine follow. The base pairs a clean musk with a dry vanilla that is not very sweet. Some critics found it smelled like luxury fabric softener. That is harsh but understandable. Hermès' Brin de Réglisse also works a soft lavender, with more licorice. Jersey is even gentler. It launched as an eau de toilette and later moved to eau de parfum with the rest of Les Exclusifs.
When to wear it
A skin scent for the office or a Sunday in a sweater. Four sprays, since it stays close to the body.
It belongs to the Fougère, Aromatic family. Jersey is one of 45 creations by Chanel in our encyclopedia.
