Our take
What does Sakura smell like?
Sakura joined La Collection Privée Christian Dior around 2018, composed by François Demachy. Dior sells it as unisex, inspired by the brief blooming of Japanese cherry trees. The opening is green with a touch of almond. Think of a snapped branch with the bark still damp. Then the cherry blossom settles in. A light rose and jasmine come with it. Hedione brightens them and gives that airy, see-through feel. Nothing is heavy and nothing shouts. The base picks up the powdery theme with mimosa and violet over a crisp white musk. The whole thing is closer to watercolour than to oil paint. Compared with L'Occitane's Cherry Blossom, which is fruitier and sweeter, Sakura plays it restrained and leans on good raw materials. The downside of that restraint is plain. After three hours you have to press your nose to your wrist to find it.
When to wear it
