Our take
What does Eau des Sens smell like?
Diptyque introduced Eau des Sens in 2016, composed by Olivier Pescheux. It uses the whole orange tree: the blossom and the bitter fruit. The opening is crisp, with a juicy bitter orange and an orange blossom that still feels green. Juniper comes next. It gives the heart a gin and tonic feel, cold and resinous. Petitgrain adds the stems and leaves. Underneath, angelica brings a rooty note that's a little earthy and peppery. Patchouli stays light and mostly holds the rest together. Nothing here is sweet or creamy. Compared with Jo Malone's Orange Blossom, which is sunnier and more floral, Eau des Sens is drier and more herbal. It works equally well on men and women. Longevity is what you'd expect from an eau de toilette, fine and nothing more.
When to wear it
A fair weather scent that fits the office in May or a holiday week. Spray generously since it fades after about four hours.
It belongs to the Floral, Aromatic family. Eau des Sens is one of 5 creations by Diptyque in our encyclopedia.
