Our take
What does Bucoliques de Provence smell like?
L'Artisan Parfumeur released Bucoliques de Provence in spring 2016 as the first in a series inspired by French regions. Fabrice Pellegrin composed the eau de parfum. It starts out direct. Lavender arrives with an herbal bite, backed by juniper berries and a streak of citrus that brightens it. Think fields in July rather than a linen-cupboard sachet. The heart softens the landscape. Iris takes over, powdery and a bit earthy, with dry spices that recall a kitchen hung with dried herbs. The base is the best part. Pale leather close to suede blends with a white musk that floats on top. Compared with Guerlain's Jicky, another classic where lavender plays the lead, Bucoliques is far less vanillic and more botanical. The spicy middle won't suit everyone. It works equally well on men and women.
When to wear it
Wear it in warm weather, on a walk or a weekend in the countryside. Three sprays are enough and the base stays close.
It belongs to the Floral, Aromatic family. Bucoliques de Provence is one of 5 creations by L'Artisan Parfumeur in our encyclopedia.
