Our take
What does Ange ou Démon Le Secret smell like?
Givenchy launched Le Secret in 2009, three years after Ange ou Démon. Bernard Ellena of Symrise switched gears. Where the original played floral oriental, Le Secret goes for transparency. Uma Thurman fronted the campaign as a young woman with a demure look. The opening is tart. Lemon, green tea and cranberry feel like cold water and sour fruit. The heart brings together jasmine, peony and a watery flower. Nothing heady here. The flowers stay fine-boned and a little damp, as if after a shower of rain. The base sets a light patchouli on blond woods and musks. It brings to mind a cup of scented tea more than a night out. Next to Ange ou Démon, which is spicier and darker, Le Secret stays in daylight. That is its main strength. It is also its weakness, since it goes flat after two hours.
