Our take
What does Eaudemoiselle smell like?
Givenchy launched Eaudemoiselle in 2010 for younger customers, promising them a couture spirit. François Demachy, then head of fragrance development at LVMH, composed it. The opening is citrus: lemon and mandarin with a touch of shiso. That Japanese herb adds a slightly peppery green somewhere between mint and basil, and it keeps the start from feeling generic. The heart rounds out with orange blossom, ylang-ylang and a bright Turkish rose. The base ties it to the chypre family in a very light form. Ambrette, cedar, white musks and tonka leave the skin soft and a bit powdery. Nothing here is dark or mossy. Compared with Miss Dior Chérie, another modern chypre from the same group released a few years earlier, Eaudemoiselle is less fruity and more floral. It has since been discontinued, which is a shame for something so easy to wear.
