Our take
What does Coeur Battant smell like?
In autumn 2019 Louis Vuitton added Coeur Battant to its women's fragrance collection. In-house perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud started from a very crisp pear accord. He paired it with ambrette seed, whose musky and slightly woody smell softens the fruit. The heart opens on jasmine sambac backed by ylang-ylang. A discreet narcissus adds a darker, almost animal edge that keeps the perfume from being too polite. The base turns chypre. Patchouli leads and moss gives it a damp forest-floor feel. The contrast between tart fruit and earthy base is what makes it interesting. It shares a clear patchouli with Coco Mademoiselle, yet Coeur Battant leans much harder on fruit and much less on orange. The name means beating heart. You can smell the quality of the materials. You can also feel the price.
When to wear it
A daytime scent for spring and autumn that moves easily from weekend errands to a date. Two sprays on the wrists last all day.
It belongs to the Floral, Chypre family. Coeur Battant is one of 13 creations by Louis Vuitton in our encyclopedia.
