Our take
What does L'Homme Idéal Extrême smell like?
Six years after the first L’Homme Idéal, Guerlain released the Extrême eau de parfum in 2020. In-house perfumer Thierry Wasser kept the almond that runs through the whole line and pushed it toward night. The opening sets that almond against clean bergamot and a dash of pink pepper. Plum arrives early, juicy and slightly candied. Cinnamon warms it. Heliotrope adds a powdery marzipan edge that recalls the house’s sweeter classics. Then the base takes over with blond tobacco on supple leather, held in place by patchouli and cedar. On skin it smells like an open cigar box next to a plate of dried fruit. Compared with Viktor & Rolf’s Spicebomb, another spicy woody scent for men, this one is rounder and more gourmand. There is less chili heat and more liqueur.
When to wear it
A winter evening scent that suits a wool coat or a velvet jacket. Two sprays are enough because the tobacco keeps spreading for hours.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Woody family. L'Homme Idéal Extrême is one of 89 creations by Guerlain in our encyclopedia.
