Our take
What does Classique Cabaret smell like?
In early 2019 Jean Paul Gaultier paid tribute to cabaret with Classique Cabaret, a limited-edition eau de parfum. Puig launched it first in European travel retail. The Classique bust, the bottle first seen in 1993, wears a glittering red dress here and ships in a red tin dotted with gold stars. The opening catches you off guard. Citron and sharp ginger tingle in the nose before a candied sweetness settles in. In the heart, orange blossom meets soft marshmallow. It is sweet, but the ginger stops it from turning into a sweet shop. The base warms up with amber and vanilla, in a vein that recalls a lighter Shalimar. Against the original Classique, which is more powdery and rosy, Cabaret feels spicier and more gourmand. British blogger The Candy Perfume Boy even preferred it to Scandal, released two years earlier.
When to wear it
A festive, warm evening scent. Two sprays on the neck and one in the hair will do.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. Classique Cabaret is one of 14 creations by Jean Paul Gaultier in our encyclopedia.
