Our take
What does Un Air de Bretagne smell like?
After Bucoliques de Provence in 2016, L'Artisan Parfumeur continued its Les Paysages collection in 2017 with Un Air de Bretagne. Juliette Karagueuzoglou composed this eau de parfum. The opening smells of salty air off the open sea. A sea water accord mixes with neroli, which adds a floral and slightly bitter light. Then comes seaweed absolute. It is briny and a little green, like a rock left bare at low tide. Cypress brings a resinous note that recalls the windbreak hedges along the coast. The base sets dry cedar leaf against a salty ambergris that stays close to skin. This is far from the calone marine scents of the 1990s. Bucoliques de Provence was about lavender and warm herbs. Un Air de Bretagne is colder and more mineral, and truer to its subject. It smells of wet granite more than beach.
When to wear it
For spring days and summer weekends, on skin or a striped sailor sweater. Four sprays, as longevity is average.
It belongs to the Woody, Aquatic family. Un Air de Bretagne is one of 5 creations by L'Artisan Parfumeur in our encyclopedia.
